Archive for January, 2008

I was feeling pretty glum this morning and not in the mood to do anything artistic.  I went to Talbots for awhile but it didn’t help. After lunch,  I started a small collage. It wasn’t very good. I picked up a piece of a broken jewel case tray and as I was moving it around, I noticed the reflection on the paper below. I started drawing these lines and really got into it. I did about seven drawings, none really small enough to fit IN a cd case (which is the basis of an idea I’m working on with my friend Ruth for an Art Alliance show). However, I’m going to use the pieces on top of the work in some cases. These drawings resemble the dance drawings I was working on, but non-objective.  I don’t know where it will lead, but at least I’m working again.

A Gift from MadelinWe spent last weekend in NYC for my birthday. We hung out with our son when he wasn’t in the studio,  saw a new play, August: Osage County, had dinner with my oldest friend and her husband, went to the New Museum, an exhibit of works by Andrew Kuo and ate wonderful food. I shared a birthday celebration with my son’s friend and band mate Lizzie, and lots of lovely and interesting young artists and musicians. Lizzie’s party was held at a new wine bar called Bacaro in Chinatown, modeled on one in Venice; We gathered in the catacomb-like space in the lowest depths of the building on Division Street. The rustic but elegant rooms, each with a long table, were lined in brick and illuminated by bejeweled candelabras. Josh is off to Florence this evening with Gang Gang Dance to entertain at the Mens Wear Trade Show. Adam Kimmel, the designer will be blogging about it in New York Times
